About Me

About AJ Wagner, LCSW

Welcome! I’m AJ Wagner, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California (License #126961) with over a decade of experience in the mental health and social services field. I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, particularly survivors of domestic violence and child abuse, as well as adolescents, families, couples, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in unhelpful patterns. Perhaps you’re struggling with intrusive thoughts, relationship challenges, difficult life transitions, codependency, grief, parenting stress, OCD, or past experiences that still affect you. If you’re here, you’re already considering the next step toward healing and growth—and I’d love to support you on your journey.

My Approach

I believe that therapy should be a safe, judgment-free space where we work together to find what truly helps you move forward. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and solution-focused, tailored to your unique needs.

Using evidence-based techniques like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I help clients develop healthier coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and insight into their personal narratives.

I may also provide homework, videos, or practical exercises to help reinforce the tools we discuss in therapy, so you feel empowered in your progress.

I offer telehealth therapy which is a secure, convenient way to receive counseling through video or phone sessions- offering the same compassionate support as in-person therapy, but with the flexibility to fit your life.

My Experience

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting clients through a variety of challenges. My clinical experience includes:

• Outpatient therapy for individuals, couples, and families

• Trauma-informed care for survivors of abuse and domestic violence

• Behavioral therapy for children on the autism spectrum

• Parent coaching for foster and adoptive families

• Support groups for mothers in recovery from substance abuse and LGBTQ+ adolescents

• Advocacy and mental health support for incarcerated individuals

• Codependency and OCD

• Medical social work at a top-rated children’s hospital

• Child protection services in adoption and investigative roles

These diverse experiences have deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, and the power of a compassionate therapeutic relationship. I am committed to helping my clients build self-awareness, heal from the past, and move forward with confidence.

If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to reach out. I look forward to working together soon!
